Jeffrey Schmidt was just 38 years old when he passed away from cancer in November 1999. He graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1979 where he played three years of soccer and baseball. Jeff combined his love of sports and children by coaching basketball, soccer, and softball with the Harundale Youth Sports League for seven years.

The Jeffrey Schmidt Scholarship Fund was formed in 2002 to honor high school seniors who exemplified community leadership, active participation in extracurricular activities and a positive approach in academics. All of these characteristics were passionate aspects of Jeffrey's life. Each applicant must possess the attributes above, be a graduating senior from Glen Burnie High School, and a participant in athletics at the Harundale Youth Sports League for three seasons or more.

Due to the scholarship fund's increasing popularity and support, the annual fundraising bullroast was started in 2004 with help from the La Fontaine Bleu and the Harundale Youth Sports League. In 2008 we gave $22,000 to eleven graduates and over the past six years, the fund has given away $83,000 to sixty graduates.

Thank you for your continued support. We all know Jeff is looking down on us with a smile on his face.
